Proficiency Award Scheme 7 to 1

For children 5 years and above

The British Gymnastics' Award Scheme is an exciting new resource available to coaches, teachers and youth leaders alike. It provides a structured progressive programme for the teaching of gymnastics.

Use of the Award Scheme with the

National Curriculum

Whilst the Award Scheme cannot replace a programme of study for gymnastics in the National Curriculum, it provides support materials and technical information to which teachers can refer for curriculum delivery. The wall charts will provide a focus for pupils to visualise how certain skills should be performed.

What is the structure of the Awards?

The Awards cover six sets of 10 exercises, graded from the simplest level - Award 7 and working up towards a more advanced level - Award 2. Entrants must start with Award 7 and work through to Award 2 to ensure the correct progression as approved by the National Technical Committees. On each level six out of the ten moves must be completed in order to progress to the next level. Each set of ten exercises is clearly displayed on a wall chart for easy use in the gym.

What Awards are available to the participants?

For levels 7 to 2 there is a badge and certificate award available for each level. Once a participant has gained awards 7 to 2 they are entitled to send off for the Level 1 Award consisting of a badge, certificate and medal.

This format has been designed as an incentive to encourage gymnasts to work through the whole scheme and so develop their gymnastic ability and interest in the sport
