Its that time of year again, and the family heads down to the land of my fathers.Regular visiters to the site will know that the National Bank of Zimbabwe is in a better financial state than us at the moment. It has been a realy wanky year and we are caught in a nasty circle. The holiday was nearly canceled and it was touch and go for many months. We mended the white car using money my dad gave us (makes a change a member of his own family spending his money) and took his car down aswell.Borrowed some more money off Jos dad and the two little girls offered to help out if we got realy stuck bless them. When you are away all the time driving, working Bank Holidays and weekends this holiday is what keeps you going. The thought of being with your family for three full weeks with just good people around you is a good feeling.
Jo and Morf in the car Both cars were filled to max with petrol, and the white car was filled to the max with oil - it likes to drink the odd pint or three.Emily the dog and me went down in the white car and Jo,Jess and Becs went in the blue car.

We had The best of the Prodigy blarting out full blast to keep us happy, and Emily did a fine job of keeping young Mr Morf happy.

We stopped at the half way point for a Mc Donalds - this is now a tradition Rebecca reckons and the hound had a good old dump.

The place where we camp has now put hook ups on the main fields for those people who want TVs and lights,so when we got there we had to go across the road to another field as we were there for 3 weeks.

We had bought two new tents last year and looked forward to setting them up.One was a four man tent - four man my arse, two of me or four Jessicas more like.So we used it to store food in and keep stuff dry.

Our 8 man Alaska 8 was ok ,big light and very easy to put up,the only gripe was that the rooms were very flimsy.

setting up
We had lots of new gadgets to play with, all bought well in advance :
  • flat pack oven
  • solar fairy lights
  • log basket
  • griddle pan
  • solar globe lights
  • dog

The best of the lot was the log basket, each day we went gathering drift wood whilst walking Morf, and then on the night burnt the lot while cooking on the griddle pan and drinking well into the night. The flat pack oven also kicked arse and we even had whole roast chicken - how cool is that?

The weather was fantastic for the first 9 days and this meant we could spend most of the day on the beach,I spent two days teaching the girls how to snorkle safley which the loved and the dog also loved eating Emilys snorkle.I fished two tides all the way with no joy and as we had the dog it was hard leaving him with Jo while I went off to the rock so I hardly did any fishing.
So most of the time was spent walking the dog, picking up wood and looking for rocks for our rock sculptures on the beach. It did rain very hard for one day and the video is up on line here.
We called a halt to the holiday for a couple of reasons and came home 5 days early to sort some crap out at home, but it was set to rain and as yet we have never packed up in the wet.I have already called D.C.L to let them know I am ready to work again and will start on Friday. So next time you see me I will be already thinking of our next camping trip.

I have made a page of the best bits of the holiday here

Note - if you are having trouble e-mailing me thats because I am having a problem with the will@jonester.co.uk account.

Dad Jo
We went to Cleveleys on Wednesday and had a great time on the new promenade/sea wall.On the beach I found a life jacket off the Riverdance. It stack of fuel oil but you can just make out Riverdance on the top.
