| Not a rant or a rave just a point I want to make,as a British truck driver my fear and dread of the V.O.S.A check points are part of the job. Even though my charts are legal and my wagon is taxed, tested and fully legal, and my trailer is clean and all the lights work and it too is tested you just can't help thinking that should I get stopped there is something I may of missed? Something with catastrophic consequences like the height chart is showing the wrong height of my trailer ? a light not working on my trailer ? 2 minutes over on a drive time ? all things that seem trivial to most people but involve loads of paper work and no doubt a job threatening warning from others higher up the food chain. Then someone please tell me how foreign drivers get away with having laptops sat on the dashboard showing a film whilst doing 65 on the M6 with no rear number plate , or van drivers that have so much gear on board that the rear tyres are ballooning out under the pressure ? Is it just me and my Cider induced paranoid brain working overtime or are the bad guys getting away with it and the legal British trucker is a sitting duck easy target? Well maybe I should get a POLSKA scarf and a dream catcher the size of my windscreen and sit my laptop on my steering wheel and join the club when stopped just look blank and get out my EASY ENGLISH book then get on my way. If I had done better at school I should of applied at V.O.S.A for a job.
To be fair though I have only been stopped twice both random checks and both were fine , in fact the officers were pretty chilled out , the wagon was fine as were my charts , and the load was well strapped this makes me believe that my paranoid outlook is unfounded and the cowboys out on the road are only one stop from a GV9. Still I do think that those red and white scarf do make your truck go faster and I also believe that they also make the truck able to undercut any price British hauliers put in for a job? |
