Trucker Tucker
I hate buying food from cafes and worse still roadside vans, for one its over priced and secondly its crap cheap rubbish. Its not me being a tight arse its just about getting value for money. When I was in France a young man called Peter Petrovic always carried a huge gas bottle around in his kit,and from this he produced the finest cusine you could think of.Where people fall foul it's because they have the little gas canisters and are afraid to cook for to long for fear of it running out.So when I saw a gas ring and bottle for sale on a boot fair for £6 I snapped it up.The bottle is a Camping Gaz 907 that when full holds 2.75 killos of gas,the ring is a Primus 2077-4.It costs £17.99 for each new bottle but a full one lasts for around 4 months.

I intend to show you all some of the treats I can knock up using just a frying pan and a saucepan, for a minimum of cost and a maximum of taste -

English Breakfast Heres a heart stopping breakfast, quality bacon,Irish sausages, mushrooms and two free range eggs.Good for at least 300 miles or just a Sunday treat.
Sausage and new potatoes New potatoes are fantasic, pennies to buy and gorgeous with lashings of butter. This is when I first got my trotters on Birds Eye frozen veg and a jar of Bisto best instant gravy.A top meal in minutes, good pan eye co-ordination is needed to get the pommes de terre in tip top condition.
spag bol Now here I am showing off to Bernard,a full Spag Bol.Made with fresh quality ingridients. It all came to £12 but the bulk of that was made up with spices and stock cubes so the next one will only cost about £4 - This was a triumph it knocked his socks off.
BBQ The BBQ in June - all in all a top weekend
Chicken curry Chicken and mushroom Balti with basmati rice and Nann bread, top meal and again knocked Bernards socks off.
Fishfinger Sandwich Birds Eye fishfingers,Lurpak butter,Heinz Tomato sauce ,Sarsons malt vinegar and Brenans Irish bread - quick and easy.A little bit of childhood fun.
Sausage and mash Bangers and mash with a pool of butter on top of the mash.Jo would love this camping treat......
Hotdogs Now these are proper hotdogs,German wurst, fried red onion and Heinz Ketchup and fresh Irish bread fingers- total cost £2 for 5
Hotdogs Chicken Breast,Hellmans,Iceberg and a wrap, quick easy tasty and cheap yum yum yum.

Cost for 4 is about £3

Stir Fry Here we have a Chicken and mixed veg stir fry in Sharwoods Black Bean and Ginger Sauce, noodles and rice.Quick and easy again with loads of taste.Total cost for one massive gut bucket plate full around £3.15
Garlic Chicken and Mushroom 'It was beautiful William' - what more could a humble cook ask for as a compliment?

Chicken and mushroom cooked in olive oil, butter and garlic.Penne pasta with a roasted sweet pepper Dolmio stir in sauce with added Irish mature chedder and a mixed leaf salad.Total cost for two huge plate fulls about £4.50 - but you are left with half a bag of pasta and half a bag of salad for the next trucking treat.

Nigela Lawson read it and weap.

Corned Beef Corned Beef, potatoes, tinned spagehiti,a camping treat again but also the scrapings of my larder.Due to the current economic climate I have had to resort to my 'ration de combat' - A basic meal but very filling. There was also a helping of creamed mushrooms but I was so hungry I wolfed them down while the pomme de terre were bubbling away.Cost about £1.20 for this trucking treat.
Corned Beef Pork loin chops,Pink pomme de terre, mixed veg and of course all swimming in gravy.I tried it first on the way down to Waterford then again back at Warrenpoint but added sausages and also cooked for two.So the cost for three huge meals was £4.00 - now that takes some beating
Chilli con carne Chilli con carne, another camping treat.Made with both kidney beans and baked beans. The baked beans add extra sweetness to take the tang off the tomatoes.Basmati rice again as I love its flavour and its easier to cook.

9 out 10 from Bernard

soup Heres a soup a cooked for my Dad,now I know its not in the truck but same high standards were used to cook it.One ring, one pan and finest ingredients. This is one dish that will go back over the Irish Sea with me.
